While a Yamato player myself I do see the discrepancies between the two. Personally the way WG represents the Iowa's and the Montana in this game is shameful and completely dishonest.Ī Yamato nerf would piss off more of the playerbase than buffing the Monty. This also completely ignores that the Class A armor was cemented to 1" of STS steel as a backing plate to give the Class A armor some "give" before it breaks and provide some additional spall protection. Keep an eye on the "Editor's Note" at the bottom. Post war analysis shows that the Sodak's 1.25" STS outershell would decap shells UP TO 16" shells, and the Iowa's up to 18.6" shells. The purpose was to pop the hardened steel cap off the AP shells and cause the rest of the shell to disintegrate upon impact with the Class A steel. Mainly the 1.5" thick STS steel decapping plate attached to the hull of the ship on the Iowa, and 1.25" decapping plate on the SoDaks. This armor value ignores a number of other designs on the USN Fast BB's post North Carolina (So South Dakota and Iowa in real life and Montana in game). WG says the Iowa's only had 12.1" of belt armor.

At any rate, the Iowa, and Montana are missing some of their armor. I did notice that the Montana was far far far easier to get more citadels on at range than the Yamato was and I suspect this has a lot to do with how the game represents hits to the super structure. I did some updated tests a few days ago and the number of pens was tolerable. At least the Mark 8 seems to finally be penning like it should.
